Thousands of independent witnesses worldwide, none consulting each other, report being visited during sleep paralysis by a tall man in a wide-brimmed hat and long coat. Consistent details include featureless dark form, a sense of menace, and inability to move or speak. The phenomenon has no obvious cultural transmission path and is increasingly studied alongside shadow-people reports as a possible interdimensional or consciousness-based encounter pattern.
